CERN News: RADES joins the hunt for dark matter
CERN news has just echoed our first RADES publication with physics results.
BabyIAXO gets its Conceptual Design published
The paper “Conceptual Design of BabyIAXO, the intermediate stage towards the International Axion Observatory”, has recently been appeared in JHEP. The article describes BabyIAXO, and the plan to be built and sited at DESY. It is an important milestone for the project and a reference document for the collaboration.
Strong interest in feeble interactions
The First Feebly Interacting Particles (FIPs) Workshop took place from 31 August to 4 September at CERN. The FIPs concept encapsulates the paradigm that the new physics includes very feebly interacting particles, complementary to the strongly interacting sector at the TeV (or beyond) scale, typically searched for at LHC. Structured around the four “portals” that may link SM particles and fields to a rich dark sector – axions, dark photons, dark scalars and heavy neutral leptons – the workshop highlighted the synergies and complementarities among a great variety of experimental facilities, and called for close collaboration across different physics communities.
12th IAXO Collaboration Meeting
16 October 2020
Given the global Covid-19 pandemic, the IAXO Collaboration could only meet virtually at the University of Heidelberg and Mainz. The 12th Collaboration meeting was dedicated to the memory of Biljana Lakic, our dear colleague who passed away in August 2020. During the meeting, the enormous progress towards the realization of BabyIAXO on all fronts, starting from the magnet over the optics towards the software and the detector system was discussed. A particular point was the future site of the BabyIAXO experiment.
10th IAXO Collaboration Meeting in Zaragoza
25 October 2019
This week the 10th IAXO collaboration has taken place in Zaragoza. More than 40 collaborators discussed the progress of the experiemnt after the recent endorsement by DESY PRC: physics case, magnet, optics, detectors, infrastructure, software, etc.
DESY PRC endorses the BabyIAXO proposal
18 July 2019
Last May 20th the BabyIAXO proposal was reviewed in detail in a special session of the Physics Review Committee (PRC) of DESY. The outcome of the review was very positive. The committee has endorsed the proposal and encourages the collaboration to continue the preparations for the realization of the experiment. The PRC also encourages DESY to take the necessary steps to host BabyIAXO and in particular to help in consolidating the collaboration with CERN on the construction of the BabyIAXO magnet.
Physics potential of IAXO
19 April 2019
The IAXO collaboration has just published the paper.
IAXO gets an ERC Advanced Grant
18 April 2018
Igor G. Irastorza, the spokesperson of IAXO, has been awarded an “Advanced Grant” of the European Research Council (ERC). These grants are the most prestigious of the ERC, awarded to projects and researchers only on the basis of excellence.
IAXO Collaboration formally established
07 July 2017
The last (7th) IAXO collaboration meeting that took place on 3-4 July 2017 at DESY, Hamburg, was especial in that the IAXO collaboration was formally constituted. An initial set of 17 institutions from over the world have approved a collaboration agreement, setting the rules and basic management bodies of the collaboration. The near-term goal of the collaboration is to build a scaled-down prototype version of the experiment, called babyIAXO, to be presumably located at DESY.
IAXO at the Physics Beyond Colliders kick-off workshop at CERN
The "Physics Beyond Colliders" Study Group was recently launched by CERN Management to explore the opportunities offered by the CERN accelerator complex and infrastructure to get new insights into some of today's outstanding questions in particle physics through projects complementary to high-energy colliders and other initiatives in the world.
IAXO in Germany
The German community interested in IAXO gathered at DESY, Hamburg, on May 24th. The meeting had the aim to discuss the physics cases that can be investigated with IAXO, as well as the status of the project and next steps. In addition, the current involvement of German groups was presented, and potential future collaborations were discussed.
IAXO workshop in Frascati
Italian IAXO collaborators are organizing an IAXO workshop in Frascati on April 18-19th. The workshop is intended to simulate the large Italian community of theoretical physicists, particle physicists, astrophysicists, cosmologists, etc, in particular from INFN, INAF, ASI, and the universities interested to contribute to the IAXO proposal.
